In order to protect and preserve its huge diversity Manu was declared national park in 1973, designated a world biosphere reserve in 1977, and world natural heritage by UNESCO in 1987. It covers an area of 1.5 million hectares and considered one of the biggest protected areas in south America. Located between Cusco and Madre de Dios regions, Manu has a spectacular and untouched nature. The flora and fauna of this National park is amazing, just in one hectare you can find 250 different type of trees, 223 different species of mammals, 1005 different type of birds and it has the world record  diversity having 155 amphibians and 132 reptiles in just one protected area.
In order to visit the Manu national park you need to contact in advance because the organization of this type of jungle tours are different than normal ones.

  1. Day 1 PILLCOPATA

    Departure from cusco around 6 am, this day we will have spectacular views of  the Andean mountain range, local villages and some pre incan sites. After 4 hours we will reach Acjanaco which is the entrance to the National Park, from where we will start going down to the cloud forest, a spectacular place with amazing flora and fauna such as the Peruvian national bird( cock of the rocks), tucans ,orchids,monkeys and maybe the Andean bear, and finally arriving to Pillcopata, where we will spend the night in a rustic lodge.

  2. Day 2 BOCA MANU

    We take motorized canoes through the Madre de Dios river to visit lakes, where  we can see Capibaras , monkeys, Egrets, falcons, Cormorants and some local tribes, this 6 hours ride it will be a unique experience because combines boat and a wildlife hike, and at night we can walk to see nocturnal animals, another unique experience not to miss it.

  3. Day 3 PARROTS CLAY

    Early in the morning we will take the boat to a clay lick to see parrots, macaws, where we will appreciate how this noisy birds lick the clay to get minerals which helps them to digest and detoxify, after this beautiful show we will have breakfast, then we continue to Salvador lake and the white lake where we will see with a telescope a variety of birds, mammals like Capibaras and maybe the amazing Anaconda. And at night an optional night hike to Ranacocha lake, where we can see Alligators.

  4. Day 4 OTORONGO LAKE

    Early in the morning we head towards  Sandoval lake , which is the natural habitat for countless number of local species, such as the black Cayman, the giant river otters and huge number of birds, and during the night we will visit the look out point tower, from where the view to Otorongo lake are just amazing. ill continue doing day and afternoon hikes and visit the Otorongo lake.

  5. Day 5 CAPIBARA LOGDE- CUSCO

    This day will be another amazing one, very early we will take a look one more time this beautiful place to see Capibaras, Caymans and maybe with some luck the Jaguar which sometimes is resting and enjoying the sun, then we will say goodbye the jungle and back to cusco city.

    NOTE: this Manu tour could be 5 days 4nights or 6 days 5 nights.
