Salkantay(the savage mountain, 6,271 m/20,574 ft)  is the highest peak in the Vilcabamba mountain range, part of the Peruvian Andes and it is the 38th-highest peak of the Andes and the twelfth highest in Peru and it is the second most topographically prominent peak in the country, after Huascaran. and Machupicchu (the old mountain) it is the most familiar icon of Inca civilization and nowadays a historic sanctuary and UNESCO world heritage site.This challenging trek was created thinking in those hikers who like challenging long trips with spectacular incan sites, amazing landscapes, snow-capped peaks, turquoise lagoons Andean plateaus , high jungles, rain forests and of course following the ancient paths that preincan cultures, inca culture and local people used to used and still use as a main trail to reach sacred places or simply for business journeys with the closest civilized world. NOTE

We would like to highlight that the weather is extremely variable, it can change from hot to cold and humid.

  1. DAY 1 CUSCO- CACHORA-CAPULIYOC -PLAYA ROSALINA- SANTA ROSA.

    We leave cusco early at 4:30 am, then we drive 4 hours to reach Cachora, where we can have some breakfast, after that we continue to Capulliyoc, where we meet our horsemen, then we start the hike around 4 hours downhill to reach our lunch place at Chikisca , on the way we will have great views of snow- capped peaks, deep valleys. After lunch we continue down to the bottom of the valley where we can see the Apurimac river famous for  class 5 rafting rapids, after that we go uphill around 2 hours to reach our campsite at Santa Rosa(1,800 m/5,906 ft).

  2. DAY 2 SANTA ROSA- MARANPATA- CHOQUEQUIRAO

    -After an early breakfast we continue our journey going up for 2 hours and reach Maranpata, which has beautiful views to the valley, after that we continue another 2 hours to reach Choquequirao ( 3,030 m/9,957 ft) where we will our lunch. after lunch you will have a guided tour of the complex which will take around 4 hours , visiting the main part of this magnificent Incan site, then we back  to our campsite.

  3. DAY 3 CHOQUEQUIRAO- PICHAWNIYOC-RIO BLANCO-MAIZAL

    -we start hiking uphill around 45 minutes to reach the Choquequirao pass(3,500 m/11,483 ft) from this pont we have great views and enjoy the lush of the eare with flowers and orchids, after that we walk around 30 minutes flat before descend around 1.5 hours to reach another Incan site called Pinchaniyoc, which probably was used as agricutural area and resting place for travellers as well, after visiting this place we keep going down to Rio Blanco for lunch after lunch we continue uphill around 4 hours to reach our second night campsite called Maizal(3,000 m/9,843 ft).

  4. DAY 4 MAIZAL- MINAS VICTORIA-CONDOR PASS- YANAMA

    -During breakfast time we will have the chance to see a magical sunrise over the mountains, after that we go uphill around 4 hours through rocky path, but great views, lush green valleys and arid mountain peaks, once we reach the top( 4,200 m/13,780 ft) we will enjoy our box lunch, from this high point the views are stunning , after that we go down to our campsite around 3.5 hours and reach Yanama (3,800 /12,467 ft).

  5. DAY 5 YANAMA –LLAMOCA PASS- TOTORA

    -This day we will hike through the famous Vilcabamba range, it will take us around 5 hours to reach the Yamana or Llamoca pass(4,500 m/14,764 ft), here we will have stunning views and we will have our box lunch as well , after that we will continue our journey another 5 hours , on the way great views of the mountain peaks like: Salkantay and Humantay as well as some andean birds, eagles, hawks and maybe some Andean bears. after that we will reach our campsite called Totora ( 3,500 m/

  6. DAY 6 TOTORA- COLLPAPAMPA- WAYRAMACHAY

    –After breakfast we will start our hike, the first part is mostly down around 3 hours to Collpapampa, here we will connect to the Salkantay trek trail and also we will have an early lunch, after lunch we will continue the hike mostly up around 4 hours to reach our campsite called Wayramachay (3,900 m/12,870 ft).

  7. DAY 7 WAYRAMACHAY- SALKANTAY PASS- SALKANTAY PAMPA

    This day after our breakfast we will start our trek mostly going uphill around 3 hours, along the way we will have spectacular views of the Salkantay mountain and also some wild life that can allow us to see some Viscachas ( kind of wild rabbit), after that we will reach the SAlkanta pass ( 4,630 m /15,279 ft), after being for some time on the top we will start going down around 3 hours to our campsite called Salkantay pampa(4,200 m/13,860 ft. where also we will have our lunch, after lunch you will have free afternoon.

  8. DAY 8 SALKANTAY PAMPA- INKA CHIRIASKA PASS- PAMPACCAHUANA

    -This day we will reach our highest point of the trek, after breakfast we will slowly go uphill around 4 hours, along the way we will have nice vistas of the Andean mountain range and some native plants which still grow at this altitude , then we  will reach the highest point called( inca Chiriaska 5,000 m/16,500 ft), from this place views are just amazing , after we walk down around 30 minutes to get to our lunch spot. after lunch we continue going down around 4 hours to reach our campsite at Pampacahuana village ( 3, 800 m/12,540 ft).

  9. DAY 9 PAMPACCAHUANA- WAYLLABAMBA- AYAPATA

    Another beautiful day, after breakfast we go dowhill around 2 hours to reach an Incan site called Paucarkancha, a beautiful and well preserved Incan construction, which probably was a Tampu or restig place, after visiting he place we continue 30 minutes more to Wayllabamba, this is the connection place to the famous Inca trail trek, and also this is the place where we will say goodbye to our horsemen and meet our fantastic porters who will be in charge of carrying all the mountain gear for the next 3 days. after all that we continue our journey going uphill around 2 hours to our campsite at Ayapata ( 3,300 m/10,89 ft) which our lunch place as well.

  10. DAY 10 AYAPATA-PACAYMAYU- CHAQUICOCHA-

    When you do the classic 4 days Inca trail, the second day is the hardest one, so this day we are going to hike that one, after breakfast we go uphill around 4 hours, this part the trail has original inca steps, which have different sizes and because of that the trail gets challenging in some parts, after that we will reach the highest point called( Warmiwanuska pass(4,215 m/13,909 ft), from this point we will have stunning views, after being for some time we will go down to Pacaymayu( which is ur lunch place. After lunch we will continue to another high pass called Runkurakay (3,950 m/13,035 ft). On the way we will the lush andean forest and well preserved incan site. After being some time on the top we go down around 1:30 minutes to reach an spectacular incan site Sayakmarka, which has beautiful views to the high jungle, then 30 minutes more we get toour campsite at Chaquicocha( 3,700 m/12,210 ft).

  11. DAY 11 CHAQUICOCHA- WINAYHUAYNA

    This part of the inca trail is considered the best part. after an early breakfast, we take a gentle path with amazing views to the  rain forest, the Vilcanota mountain range,and never ending valleys. after 2 hours walk we will arrive to Puyupatamarka (3,700 m/12,210 ft), which is an impressive inca site with beautiful terraces, water fountains. after that we go down around 3 hours, on the way  you will see the change of the landscape from highlands to high jungle with a big variety of plants,flowers, orchids and different type of birds. Finally we will reach our campsite at Winayhuayna( 2,650 m/8,745 ft). where we will have lunch as well and you will have free afternoon.

  12. DAY 12 WINAYHUAYNA- MACHUPICCHU-CUSCO

    This final day we will start very early around 4 am, in order to see the sunrise at the sun gate, this last day is going to be a fantastic one because we will visit one of the main Peruvian icons(Machupicchu), the first part is a gentle walk around 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the sun gate, from where we will have the first view of Machupichu and a different panorama, after we continue another 45 minutes the the guard’s house from where we will take the classic pictures, then we go to the check point to register, after that we continue with the  guided tour around 2 hours to see the main parts and learn more about this magical place. then you will have some free time to explore more by your own , after we will take the bus down to Aguas calientes town where we can have lunch.Later in the afternoon we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo( 1. 45 minutes) where our driver will be waiting for you to bring you back to Cusco .

    Note:This tour it should be book well in advance to get permits specially for the inca trail, and the weather will change everyday because we go from low jungle to the highlands and you need a good physical conditions to manage this long trek.
